Olive oil schools in Italy

There are many small and large olive oil producers who offer tours and tastings at their estates and farms throughout Italy. But apart from large olive oil schools which offer classes on tasting and horticulture for producers and professional buyers there are very few dedicated olive oil schools solely aimed at the general public and small trade buyers.
Organisations such as ASSAM in Le Marche and other similar bodies throughout Italy hold courses, teaching classes, workshops and certification services, these all being essential for professional olive oil producers.
One of the aims of the Festival del Gusto is to help bring organic and biodynamic producers in Italy together with interested members of the public and organisations who wish to hear more about these increasingly important methods of production of our food and wine.
Another important aim we have is to set up and run olive oil schools offering workshops, tasting classes and lectures by small olive oil producers who will be specialists in organic and biodynamic extra virgin olive oil production and horticulture.
As well as modern day techniques of olive oil production and horticulture part of the classes will also concentrate on the history of olive oil production and olive varieties found in Italy and other parts of the Mediterranean region.

Our new olive oil schools will not be permanently located in any one particular Italian region or venue, they will be based on our "pop up" events that we currently have in London and Norwich, where we hold tastings and workshops at different venues most months of the year. But it is possible that in the future a semi permanent venue may be located in the lovely Adriatic resort of Senigallia in the Le Marche region as many of our producers and contacts live in and around that area.
We also have interest about holding classes and "pop up" schools from an olive oil and wine producer near Arezzo in Tuscany, a producer near Todi in Umbria and another producer of fine extra virgin olive oil in the Lazio region in the west of Italy.

Malta Food Event in December

Festivaldelgusto are very pleased to be working on an exciting new event in Malta this December held together with MCA , the Mediterranean Culinary Academy and several Slow Food groups from Italy and other Mediterranean countries. We have been planning to hold an organic and sustainable food event in Valletta the capital of Malta since the Slow Food Mediterranean conference in Valletta last October. The event will mainly be aimed toward promoting small artisan producers from around the Mediterranean region as well as representatives from many of the countries taking part. During the day there will be a series of workshops, talks and pop up street food stands as well as a dedicated kitchen where chefs can prepare dishes which are typical of their home countries. It is hoped that the event can be held outside in the streets close to the beautiful Hastings Gardens, but if this is not possible because of the weather in December then it will be relocated to an indoor venue in another part
